Farmers Market

“Market wins Award”

In May 2008 the Albany Farmers Market won the Inaugural Vogue Entertaining + Travel Produce Award for the “ Outstanding Farmers Market”.

Since it's inception in April 2002, the Great Southern Farmers Market - Albany has grown from strength to strength. The local community arrives early to select their fabulously fresh fruit and vegetables direct from the people who grow them. In addition to the vast array of fresh produce, shoppers also have access to marron, venison, organic meat and eggs, organic sauces, honey, cheese & yoghurt, to name but a few.

The early morning buzz of the market is now a familar experience for customer and farmer alike. The markets were established by two very hard-working voluneer board members, Ms Pam Lincoln and Ms Debra Hartmann, with support from the GSRMA board and a growers committee.

Pam & Debra spent 10 months prior to the first market last year, planning and organising a workshop to bring together growers and key stakeholders, establishing market guidelines , organising insurance, a venue and a raft of other essentials.

There is no doubt that we would not have a Farmers Market today, if it wasn't for the initiative of these two women. Now that the markets are well established, Pam & Debra have stepped aside to allow the growers to run the markets themselves. This means that the GSRMA no longer has any direct input into the Farmers Market, but will assist the growers to promote the market as a fine example of why the Great Southern Region really is Great!

The market is moving

Saturday 24th February 2007 will be the first market at the new site. It will be held in the Advertiser car park.  Best described as behind St. John's Church along Collie Street Albany
